None of these rules are hard laws, and a good artist will not judge a first-timer for not knowing them. But they make the day smoother for everyone.

On a very large multi-session piece people often tip per session. If the budget is tight, a thoughtful review and tagging the artist when you post photos are genuinely valuable to them too.
At 15–20%: a $150 tattoo → $23–30; a $400 tattoo → $60–80; a $1,000 session → $150–200. The price estimator shows the range for your size and city with tipping included.
One support person is usually fine — ask first. They should be happy to sit for hours and not crowd the workstation. Children and groups are generally not welcome in the work area.
Follow the aftercare, get in touch if something looks off, and come back for the touch-up rather than letting another artist “fix” it straight away. Tag the artist and studio when you post photos — it’s how they get found.
